Matthew Rich-Tolsma

Group analyst, artist-educator, and organisational consultant working across clinical practice, artistic research, and critical pedagogy. My approach is informed by group-analytic clinical practice and mindfulness-based, embodied methods that support steadiness and attention in complex relational systems. I partner with leaders and organisations to strengthen reflective leadership, improve collaboration, and shape more equitable, high-trust, and connected cultures.

Welcome. My work unfolds at the intersection of art, education, healing, and social change. As an artist-educator, organisational consultant and therapist, I lead transformative processes that invite deep reflection, restore connection, and reimagine the processes of relating that shape our lives. Grounded in decolonial scholarship and relational practice, I work across sectors and continents to support individuals, institutions, and communities in navigating complexity, addressing historical and collective trauma, and cultivating more just, vibrant, and life-affirming futures.
My leadership attends to the emotional, ethical, and political dimensions of change; supporting both personal healing and collective shifts in how we relate, learn, and lead together.

His deep knowledge and understanding of the subtleties of complex relationships combined with his amazing listening skills were extremely helpful in moving complex projects ahead, where it was difficult to find a solution.

Group Analytic Therapy

I offer group-analytic therapy for individuals, couples, and groups who want to understand repeating relational patterns, work through rupture, and deepen belonging. I also provide reflective practice in institutional settings, attending to what emerges between people, where the personal meets the social, and where repair and change become possible in relationship.

Artistic-Research & Facilitation

I design and facilitate studio-based artistic-research rooted in social sculpture, supporting groups to practise the craft of being together when what is at stake cannot be solved by clarity alone. We work with complexity, power, and responsibility as lived realities, so learning stays alive and what is sensed can become shared practice in the places it matters.

Organisational Coaching & Consulting

I partner with leaders and organisations to strengthen reflective leadership, improve collaboration, and navigate complexity with greater ethical clarity. My work focuses on culture, relational dynamics, and decision-making, especially during transition, conflict, or organisational strain.

Applied Nonviolence (Peace & Conflict)

I support people and organisations to meet conflict without escalation, and to translate values into action under pressure. Drawing on applied nonviolence and dialogue practice, we build the capacity to interrupt harm, repair trust, and pursue justice without losing relationship.

Scholarship & Pedagogy

I work as an artist-educator and scholar-practitioner, bringing decolonial, critical, and relational thinking into education and professional learning. Through writing, teaching, and programme design, I help learning communities develop critical praxis and more just institutional habits in the face of social complexity.

Contemplative & Embodied Practices

I integrate mindfulness, somatic attention, and contemplative practice to support steadiness, presence, and discernment in complex relational settings. Grounded in an ubuntu-informed, relational understanding of personhood, this work strengthens the capacity to stay embodied, track what is unfolding in real time, and respond with care, responsibility, and precision.
